S&C's Civic Trust Awards haul

The new year has kicked off with several gongs for S&C! No fewer than four of our projects are winners in the 2023 Civic Trust Awards. 

Skelly & Couch Associate Ben Hunt (second from left) leads the client’s prize-winning team for original design and out-of-the-box thinking. Skelly & Couch and global engineering consultancy Worley recently held a hackathon at the London Museum of Water and Steam. The challenge: to explore strategies to decarbonise the museum and support its pathway to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Theatre Royal Drury Lane - nominated in The Stage Awards 2022. Skelly & Couch has completed environmental engineering work at two of the three venues nominated for the prestigious Theatre Building of the Year prize in The Stage Awards 2022.

Cambridge Central Mosque by Marks Barfield Architects has been shortlisted for the 2021 RIBA Stirling Prize.

Skelly & Couch projects have won five RIBA National Awards 2021.

Skelly & Couch's eleven best RIBA hits

Skelly & Couch projects have scooped eleven RIBA Regional Awards 2021.

Skelly & Couch projects feature strongly in this year’s RIBA Regional Awards with five accolades presented by RIBA South East alone.

TIME Magazine has named the Design District in Greenwich one of the World's Greatest Places 2021. Skelly & Couch is working on all 16 buildings of this futuristic creative hub.

Skelly & Couch Founding Director Mark Skelly has been appointed as an Associate to Design Council’s refreshed network of more than 400 built and natural environment experts who collectively embody the organisation’s commitment to make life better by design.

S&C focus on theatre - December 2020

As theatres in England reopen in tier one and two areas this week, albeit with capacity restrictions, Skelly & Couch shines a spotlight on two outstanding theatre projects: the much-loved community hub and newly-crowned Overall Winner of the New London Awards 2020, Battersea Arts Centre (BAC), and the new-build Bridge Theatre.

Leading building environment and services engineers Skelly & Couch are part of the preferred multidisciplinary team led by Hopkins Architects which has beaten four other contenders to develop Twickenham Riverside. 

Award-winning building environmental engineering firm Skelly & Couch has published its latest, eclectic collection of high-quality, sustainable projects.  

The spectacular Cambridge Central Mosque (Marks Barfield Architects) is the cover story feature in the August 2019 edition of CIBSE Journal, the leading international magazine for building services engineers.

The revived Brutalist icon Preston Bus Station by John Puttick Associates has swept the boards in the top architectural critics' reviews of the year. Jonathan Glancey for the BBC's worldwide selection of 'a great year in architecture' said the project, for which Skelly & Couch carried out full environmental design, is 'Throughout ...a meticulous and thoughtful renewal and remodelling'. The Observer's Rowan Moore described the building as one of a number of 'concrete marvels formerly threatened with obliteration'.  

Over the past decade, Skelly & Couch has grown from a practice of two to a thriving, 40-strong limited company with five directors.

Skelly & Couch engineer Sapna Halai has excelled in this year's Engineering Sketches competition organised by the Engineering Club.

Three Skelly & Couch projects have won 2018 RIBA Regional Awards with judges highlighting the quality and innovation of building services and environmental engineering.

Skelly & Couch's winning ten years!

Skelly & Couch’s tenth anniversary celebrations have been given an extra boost by multiple project nominations in the inaugural AJ Architecture Awards. The ceremony will be held on 7 December 2017 at Grosvenor House in London's Mayfair.

Command of the Oceans (Baynes and Mitchell Architects) at the Historic Dockyard Chatham has been shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize 2017.

Building environment and services engineers Skelly & Couch successfully contributed to no fewer than three 2017 RIBA National Award-winning projects. The awards hat trick was achieved from among 49 winning projects across the UK.

Building environment and services engineers Skelly & Couch successfully contributed to no fewer than three projects presently shortlisted for the 2017 RIBA South East Awards. The awards hat trick was achieved from a shortlist of 14 projects across the region, which covers Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

The widely-praised Brighton College Music School has been awarded a 2017 Civic Trust Commendation.

For the second consecutive year, building environment and services engineering firm Skelly & Couch has earned a top 50 ranking in Building magazine’s Good Employer Guide 2016, the annual survey which asks workers in the UK construction industry to rate their employers across several factors.  

Skelly & Couch, together with architects John Puttick Associates, are hosting a small exhibition on the restoration and refurbishment of the Grade II-listed Preston Bus Station and the plans for the adjacent new Youth Zone building in the Lancashire city.

The Design Council Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (Design Council Cabe) has chosen Skelly & Couch co-founder Dr Mark Skelly as one of 150 new recruits to its highly respected Built Environment Experts (BEEs) Network.

ORTUS nominated for EU prize

ORTUS learning and events centre has been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture-Mies van der Rohe Award 2015. Launched in 1987, this Prize is co-funded by the EU Culture Programme and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe.

Haworth Tompkins' Winning Year

Haworth Tompkins has crowned an exceptional year by winning Building Design’s 2014 Schueco Gold Award as Architect of the Year. Only weeks after landing the RIBA Stirling Prize, as well as the 2014 RIBA London Architect of the Year Award, the Kentish Town-based practice was also named BD’s Refurbishment Architect and Public Building Architect of the Year for their body of work, much of it in partnership with Skelly & Couch. The spectacular, timber-roofed swimming pool at Alfriston School, completed recently by Duggan Morris Architects and leading building environment and engineering firm Skelly & Couch, is the Structural Winner in the 2014 UK Wood Awards.

Awesome ORTUS Scoops New Award

The stunning ORTUS learning and events centre, for which Skelly & Couch carried out full mechanical, electrical and environmental design, has won the prestigious 2014 British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA) Building Project of the Year (up to £10 million) for Duggan Morris Architects. To date, ORTUS has scooped no fewer than six major awards, including a 2014 RIBA National prize. 

Skelly & Couch, the award-winning building environment and services engineering firm, is welcoming 250 architect clients and other close associates at the iconic Farmiloe Building on Thursday 18 September to celebrate its seventh birthday. Formed originally as an LLP in 2007, Skelly & Couch became a limited company in April this year.
