Setting the bar for success

Skelly & Couch projects have scored a hat trick of successes in the Civic Trust Awards as the environmental engineering firm's achievements gather pace in 2018.

Command of the Oceans at the Historic Dockyard Chatham (Baynes and Mitchell Architects) and Vajrasana Buddhist Retreat Centre (Walters & Cohen) were among 18 CTA international winners. The King's School Canterbury - Kingsdown House (also Walters & Cohen) earned a Civic Trust AABC Conservation Commendation.

Judges said Command of the Oceans "is a unique conservation and re-use project. It unlocks the potential of historic buildings at the dockyard allowing them to be used as 21st century visitor facilities".

Vajrasana Buddhist Retreat Centre was described as "a very sensual tactile building that has to be experienced". The Kingsdown House sensitive refurbishment, followed by an exceptional new build, "successfully improves the links between school buildings, making navigation through the site easier, and at the same time, a pleasurable experience".

Skelly & Couch was recenty recognised as an M&E Champion with five other contenders in the BREEAM Awards 2018.
