National Theatre Costume Workshop
The existing 5th floor costume workshop department at the Grade II*-listed National Theatre is undergoing a full refurbishment to meet up-to-date compliance requirements and better meet the needs of the costume workshop users.
The refurbishment will include enhancements to the Wig, Hair and Make-up departments, the Dye Shop and feature a Costume Props production workshop and a laundry space. With improvements across these areas, the ambition and aim are to reduce energy consumption wherever possible during the project.
For its part in the project, Skelly & Couch is carrying out a full H&S and compliance study of the existing M&E systems already serving the workshop spaces. To further understand and tackle overheating issues within the space, thermal modelling exercises will be undertaken and potential solar shading and passive cooling measures implemented. Working in collaboration with the architects Tom Wilson Studio, a feasibility option study will also be created to recommend potential spatial and M&E system re-design measures to enhance the facilities to the end users.
