Pedro Valero

Pedro Valero has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, Spain.

Pedro gained extensive experience working as Lead Engineer in two prominent architecture/engineering companies in Spain. He had full responsibility for project design and work supervision of water/sanitary services, heating & cooling, ventilation, electricity (high and low voltage), voltage substations, indoor and outdoor lighting and fire detection and suppression systems for more than 30 buildings, totalling more than 1,500 houses/apartments in Alicante, Mallorca and Murcia.

At London-based AMBS Architects, Pedro created, developed and co-ordinated the firm’s engineering department. He successfully developed large-scale building and masterplanning projects in Baghdad and Basra, Iraq, and acquired an in-depth understanding of UK and US regulations.

Pedro’s environmental M&E work at Skelly & Couch includes two major regeneration schemes for pioneering property developer HUB. The first is the £50 million new-build development of 200+ flats near the planned Elizabeth line (formerly Crossrail) terminus at Abbey Wood, south east London, comprising two residential blocks, commercial spaces and a public realm, all designed to minimise the impact on the environment. He has also been involved in plans by developers HUB and Smedvig to redevelop The Landing site, Maidenhead, offering 519 homes, for sale or rent, within six buildings, along with 57,000 sq ft of office space and 37,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and workspace, subject to planning consent. Additionally, Pedro is working on a full Cat-A fit-out refurbishment at Grade II-listed Mountbatten House. The upgrades will improve the building’s current energy use, carbon emissions and sustainability by using methods such as rainwater harvesting.

Pedro is currently contributing to an outstanding £44 million project on the Greenwich Peninsula. The Design District is London’s first purpose-built district of 16 buildings designed for the creative industries. Skelly & Couch’s environmental designs within the district are to encourage natural ventilation and day-lit interiors through strong passive design, consequently reducing capital and running costs. To date, Pedro has been working on the below-ground services infrastructure, external lighting and environmental engineering in all 16 buildings. The Design District has a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.

He has also carried out the electrical, communications and security detail design on the West Block project at world-famous Shakespeare’s Globe, involving the redevelopment of exhibition spaces, a library and archive.
