Scape Greenwich Student Accommodation

A new student accommodation building at Greenwich Peninsula. Skelly & Couch was appointed to provide full mechanical, electrical, public health and environmental services for the client on this design and build.

The project provides 280 student rooms within 8,200m2 and is located at the southern edge of the Greenwich Peninsula Masterplan at 2 East Parkside. It is ideally located within walking distance of Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication. The aim of the project has been the creation of a contemporary student hall of residence with a strong identity within the Greenwich Peninsula - and to provide a building where students engage with each other and which encourages interaction between them and the local community.

Features of the buildings include high levels of thermal insulation and airtightness and good levels of daylight. The building is naturally ventilated throughout. The scheme represents the first buildings to be connected to the Greenwich Peninsula District Heating Network, making use of Combined Heat and Power. All these factors contributed to the project meeting the London Plan’s 40% carbon reduction target and it being awarded a BREEAM Excellent Rating and an EPC rating of A.

The en-suite areas of the buildings were formed using pre-fabricated pods. Each of the two residential towers has a fire fighting lift with mechanically assisted smoke extract.

Skelly & Couch took the design to RIBA stage E and was then retained by the client to perform a monitoring role.
