The Wiltern

A striking Art Deco Build-to-Rent apartment building in Ealing, west London.

The £55m scheme comprises 279 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, 35% of which will be affordable, and is designed to reference the architecture of the iconic, Grade II*-listed Hoover Building located behind it.

Setting a new standard for the housing sector, the 15-storey Wiltern is designed to achieve 62% above Building Regulation Part L compliance on completion.   • Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) will be generated via a roof-mounted Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) array to provide space heating and hot water throughout the building. Gas is not required for the development.

  • Green renewable energy equipment, including three photovoltaic arrays with a combined total capacity of at least 38 kWp, and the ASHP will achieve an annual reduction of at least 50.60%, equating to 127 tonnes in regulated carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.   • Based on expected occupancy levels and casual heat gains, the ground floor entrance area will be provided with natural ventilation by opening windows at low and high level (window actuators).

  • The Building Regulations Part L2A state that the buildings must achieve an air tightness rate of 10m3/hr/m2. We have designed heating systems to allow for an air tightness rate of 3m3/hr/m2.

The project was developed in consultation with the London Borough of Ealing, the GLA and Historic England, and all parties have worked closely on the updated plans.

The Wiltern is one of three Greater London developments by Amro Partners to which Skelly & Couch is contributing environmental engineering services in collaboration with architects HTA Design. The remaining two are The Rex, an exemplar retrofit, Build-to-Rent co-living apartment building in Kingston, and the Croydon Park Hotel in south London, a £200m GDV BTR project, which will deliver c.600 new homes and shared amenity spaces.
