Walwick Hall

Nestled in the scenic landscape of rural Northumberland, Walwick Hall is a Grade II-listed country hotel located in a one hundred acre Georgian estate. The site is situated within the World Heritage Site Hadrian’s Wall Buffer Zone, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The project involves the construction of two stand-alone pavilions and associated ancillary spaces within the existing walls of the estate’s garden to create a wedding venue and conference area with a supporting kitchen. There will also be a series of luxury accommodation pods built in the grounds for the associated guests of events that take place at the new development.

Skelly & Couch have been appointed to provide full M&E duties and are working successfully within the listed setting despite certain constraints, such as the site having no grid connection for gas, to design a series of innovative engineering solutions. There is also a requirement for a new substation for the electrical generation, transmission and distribution system as existing infrastructure is not available at the location. Air source heat pumps will also be installed for heating the new building, as well as possibly the hot water on site.
